our house: introducing our farm

My family and I live on Collinson Farm, an amazing 1856 Farmhouse in Monmouth County, NJ.

My family owns and operates The Parrot Mill Inn in NJ, and my Grandmother is a lover of all things antique as well, so I was basically raised to appreciate the older things we encounter as they’re all a bit of history.

I stalk older homes, as a matter of fact, I love almost everything antique. I was a frequent browser of Historic Properties, would go as far as to taunt my husband about moving to some remote location just for a HOUSE that caught my eye.

Realistic? Not at all. With two children, family, and careers based in NYC/NJ, (while it of course is fun to toss the idea of moving west), I started chanting the mantra “Give me a historic home on 2 acres of land, locally”, and in July of 2006, that came true.

My husband and I – myself being 7 months pregnant with my second child – had just sold our 2 bedroom ranch house (proudly, by owner) and were in high gear to purchase a larger home for our expanding family.

We had gone on a Saturday to see about 17 houses with the dynamic Jen Diehl, our fabulous real estate agent from Peninsula Realty Group. All ones we, as a three person team, selectively chose. I had found the farm and had her schedule this particular one on the following Sunday.

We knew, from the moment we drove up the driveway, that this was our house. I’m not sure if it would’ve mattered if the ceilings were falling down, this was our home. My husband and I never needed to discuss it, we walked through the home not even acknowledging each other, but we both knew.

We closed shortly thereafter, the rest is history in the making. Literally. I will be posting the interesting renovations on the house including the RENOVATED STUDIO which should be completed by October of this year. Be sure to check in regularly!
