I’m going to precede this blog post by saying that maternity portraits are typically shot two months prior to your due date under normal circumstances :-).
I received an email from Kelly, who contacted me during week 37 of her pregnancy stating, “I’m still up for having my picture taken!” I was thrilled, but knew we had to get a move on as this baby was likely to be born any day. Luckily, I had an opening on January 5, 2008 – and I drove into NYC – Central Park West – for a maternity session with Kelly and Joe.
I have to say, before I even got there, Kelly had described to me her style as “Kate Spade” and let me tell you – Kelly is a huge Kate Spade Fan. Kelly is so organically beautiful! I couldn’t believe she was 37 weeks pregnant! I’ve been running into some really hot looking moms-to-be.
You just can’t beat walking around the streets of Manhattan, there’s nothing like it – and we ended up with a remarkably warm day, so we took full advantage. We shot in quite a few locations this day so I have some variety 😉 Here is a healthy amount.
Kelly just has a knack for putting things together. I loved these vintage lamps!
An uncanny sense

This is not a pregnant face! Isn’t she radiant?
Off to Central Park
Then Joe decided to sing.
And sing…
Hey, he worked for it.

And is just so happy!

I was crawling in the bushes sniper style.
The best part about this session? Kelly went into labor that very night to deliver a beautiful and healthy baby girl, Ruby Beatrice! I’m so thankful we got this session in before she arrived. Thanks so much, Kelly & Joseph, for inviting me into your world and allowing me to document it.
Stay tuned for Ruby Beatrice!
These are such fab photos!! So warm yet glamorous in an everyday sort of way.
And their apartment is also pretty amazing. Any chance Kelly would share where she got her headboard? I love it.
Their NEW apartment is even more amazing. Wait until you see it.
Re: Headboard, I of course asked her when I first showed up (it’s a showpiece!) I believe she said it was a Soho store find – but I may be mistaken. Hopefully she gets in here and fills us in. She had a great knack for putting things together and inspired me to my daughter’s photo wall (blog post to follow when I can get to it).
I love this session! Those photos on the wood floor are fabulous. The park photos, fantastic. Beautiful & real.
Love the pictures! She looks GREAT for 37 weeks and going into labor that day!
As always, gorgeous.
But um, that bed?! LOVES it.
[…] you remember the couple from Kelly & Joseph who were expecting Ruby in their maternity photography session in Central Park – if not, be sure to check it out. If you read the story, you would know – Ruby Beatrice was born […]
Laura – these are really beatiful. What a cute couple, in addition to the headboard and the photo wall (which I will also duplicate!) Loving those little flats she has on. Noticed she owns them in 2 colors!

I know 2 places where you might be able to get a similar headboard made…won’t be cheap though. That is a showpiece!
