day at the zoo

Blog is in need of some lighter content.

When I’m not working, I’m doing things with my children - and while blogging is definitely important, it’s been a very busy summer on all fronts. I’m a bit behind!

I wanted to post a few images recent visit to the Staten Island Zoo with my girls! It has been a very long time since I have visited the animals there and I am sure they had missed me.  I am happy to say that it has improved quite a bit in the last 12 (or so) years!

What many may not know is that the Staten Island Zoo is also known as Barrett Park

Dad wasn’t too far behind. He didn’t open up for me, unfortunately.

While we didn’t get to go to the tropical garden section of the zoo (the kids were not interested!) - I did manage to fire off some shots of the sunflowers. I love sunflowers.

I have to admit, this is not an easy image for me to look at.

The interior is quite different than I remember. They’ve definitely gone high tech.

My only wish is that I didn’t have to shoot these through dirty glass!

I kept putting the camera down and looking in his eyes wondering…what was he thinking? He was very calm. I kept trying to see some rage in his eyes, for being caged, but surprisingly I didn’t, do you?

It was a great time had by all, our little trip to the Staten Island Zoo. Kids loved it - and it is a very manageable zoo. We were in and out in about 1 hour, 20 min or so, including stopping for ice cream inside.

There is quite a lot I didn’t get pictures of. The Staten Island Zoo is free on Wednesdays, although I do not recommend going on Wednesdays, it gets quite swamped!

I have not been to the zoo in a MILLION years! The pics are awesome - made me feel like I was there taking the tour with you guys! I always wind up feeling bad for all the animals there when I go :(. That tarantula shot - YUCK!!!!!

Oh, yay!! My zoo. :-) I haven’t been for yeaaarrrsss but my mom still goes early in the a.m. on Groundhog Day to see if theirs sees his shadow.

Great photos! Now I want to go back to the zoo. Except “sad monkey” is making me a bit sad, too, and sometimes I get sad seeing all of those animals in cages. Though I think they’re safer there than, say, running from a hungry hyena.
